Rothesay Castle stands on Castlehill Street in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, surrounded by its moat. It has Scotland's only circular curtain wall, with four projecting towers added after a Norse siege in 1263, and a restored great hall in the gatehouse with displays on its long association with the Stewart kings.
Historic Environment Scotland do not publish a line about visitors' dogs for this site. Their site-wide rule, from their own pages, is that assistance dogs are permitted at all their sites including roofed areas, that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and never left unattended, and that owners must pick up after them. Whether ordinary visitors' dogs are admitted here is not stated either way, so check the signs on arrival before counting on it.
