The ruins of Scotland's first Cistercian monastery, founded by David I in 1136 on Abbey Street in Melrose and largely rebuilt in the 1380s. The abbey church is noted for its carved stonework, including a bagpipe-playing pig, and a memorial marks the spot where Robert the Bruce's heart is thought to be buried. Historic Environment Scotland state on this site's own page: "Visitors' dogs are allowed at Melrose Abbey, but must be kept on a lead are not permitted in roofed areas." Their site-wide rule adds that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times, must not be left unattended, and that owners must pick up after them. Assistance dogs are permitted everywhere including roofed areas.
