Dunstaffnage Castle stands on a rocky peninsula above the Firth of Lorn at Dunbeg, near Oban. Built by the MacDougalls before 1240 and captured by Robert the Bruce in 1308, it has one of Scotland's oldest curtain walls, a gatehouse of around 1500 and battlements to walk, with a 13th-century chapel in the nearby woods.
Historic Environment Scotland list "Dogs welcome in outdoor areas" in the facilities on this site's own page. Their site-wide rule adds that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times, must not be left unattended, and that owners must pick up after them. Assistance dogs are permitted everywhere including roofed areas.
