Totnes Castle is a Norman motte-and-bailey castle at the highest point of the hilltop town of Totnes in Devon, founded around 1087 by a follower of William I. A stone shell-keep rings the summit of its high, steep-sided mound, and the wall-walk gives views over the town to the River Dart and Dartmoor. Below the mound lies the wooded inner enclosure, or bailey.
English Heritage lists this site among its dog-friendly places. Its published guidance asks visitors to keep dogs on a lead in fields with livestock and to clean up after them. English Heritage does not publish a site-specific lead policy here, so check signage on arrival.
