The George and Dragon is a historic country inn in the village of Clifton, just south of Penrith, restored by the Lowther family in 2008. Much of its seasonal food comes from family farms and the kitchen gardens at nearby Askham Hall, and it has 15 individually designed bedrooms, four fires and a private courtyard with outdoor seating.
In their own words: "Well-behaved pooches are welcome in our bar area, but not in our restaurant." So: The bar, not the restaurant. Most bedrooms are dog-friendly too.
